A/C System and Removal of Forum…

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Two things today:

First, the A/C system.  I have decided to remove the A/C system completely, except for the buttons on the center console and the evaporator assembly behind the dash.

I am going forward with a new method of A/C using an electric motor from http://www.revoltevc.com/climate/cooling.html.  They have a controller that will take 9-30VDC which will draw power from my 130A alternator.  I will have this motor/compressor placed in the trunk.  I’m looking at picking up their ~6,000BTU compressor unit and the controller that goes with it.

I’m thinking of removing the condenser from in front of the radiator and creating a sheet metal shroud that will cover the front and mount the fans on it.  Along with that, I will probably pick up a smaller condenser that comes with two electric fans that I can position separately, probably under the car, in between the exhaust mufflers at the rear end where the compressor can connect to.  There will be two lines going from the compressor and the condenser to the engine compartment.  The lines will be mounted above the driveshaft and transmission.  Plenty of room there.

Second thing is that I decided to shut down the forum.  There wasn’t any activity going on there so I decided to close it and gives me back my time that I spent going in to manage it.  Instead, I am still here to answer any questions.

Oil Change due Today… and Some Additional Thoughts…

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Well, folks…

Today I should perform an oil change on the Miata. I beat on that engine hard and I think it deserves an oil change after 2,000-ish miles. I was advised that if you beat on an engine hard, you should do more frequent oil changes so that way the life of the engine is prolonged. But the deal here is that I have to do the other two vehicles as well. My F-150 and the Mazda 3. The up-side here is that the F-150 and the Mazda 3 both use 5W-20, water-like. I would figure that the water-like characteristics would be because of the higher degree of precision that engine-makers are taking into account as opposed to the ’93 series of the 302s.

I had a day trip out to Nogales, Mexico yesterday in search of the Café Combate coffee. The Superior line. Why would I just drive all the way out to Mexico just to get coffee? Well, not JUST any coffee. This kind is unique because it’s caramelized with sugar. The purpose for the caramelized sugar is to lock in the flavor of the coffee from when it’s roasted. The result provides an increase in potency. So, basically, two cups of this tasty shit, you’re awake for a good 8+ hours.

Over and out.

Got a Body/Paint Quote from Maaco…

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Hello folks,

For shits and giggles, I figured I’d go down to Maaco auto body and paint in Tempe, AZ and figured I had nothing to lose just to find out what kind of figure I was looking at for getting my Miata’s body done.  I basically told them to do everything that’s white, including the door jambs and everything else.  I told them not to do anything to the carbon fiber hood.  I will take this to a fiberglass paint shop and have them do the wet-sand and buff and clear coating for UV protection…

They told me that wasn’t going to be a problem because they’ve never done carbon fiber before.  I was a little puzzled at that.  They said they only paint these hoods the same color as what is being painted.  I was once again puzzled again.  I figured… if they said they paint it the same color as the rest of the project, what’s the big deal with a clear coat?

Anyway, the figures are here:  Maaco’s quote.

Update:

Turns out that the reason why Maaco wouldn’t do the clear coat on the carbon fiber hood is because clear coatting something is kind of a pain in the ass type of process, especially with something that isn’t base-coated.  Hmm.

New Website Design…

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Hey there, Monster Miata enthusiasts…

I decided that I had to bring the old blog site to meet the code butcher… Mainly because the old blog design was just… not sufficient for what I’d like for the site to do. As a matter of fact, I actually didn’t think that this site would go this far. I have received numerous contacts from various Miata enthusiasts wanting to upgrade their Miatas to a V8 or the like.

I figured that I’d take this one step further, but of course, one step at a time.

Why am I doing this? There were some mistakes in the Miata Manual that were somewhat severe and to some extent, careless.  The mistakes are are apparent to the possibility of an electrical fire.  Oh, that would be so horrible.  Having invested so much money into this and having a simple stupid mistake take it all away.  You could literally smell the wire burning.  Now, this was not a mistake on my behalf, it was a mistake in the instructions on the Miata Manual…  I had followed the dotted i’s and crossed t’s.

So, my agenda here is to post correct information that could save you a few bucks and hassle.

Hope you enjoy the new layout and design.

Cheers.
